Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Women’s Plants & Natural Balance | Provence d’Antan
Women’s Plants: A Herbal Heritage
For centuries, certain plants have accompanied women through every stage of life.
In traditional herbalism, they symbolize balance, rhythm, gentleness, and natural vitality.
Their use is rooted in well-established botanical knowledge, today framed by European regulations (EC Regulation No. 1924/2006).
Red Vine (Vitis vinifera L.)
Known for its crimson autumn leaves, Red Vine has traditionally been used to promote a feeling of light legs and support microcirculation.
It embodies vitality, fluidity, and inner beauty — a plant of motion and feminine energy.
In the Provençal hills, its leaves turn fiery red — a symbol of warmth and radiant strength.
Sage (Salvia officinalis L.)
A Mediterranean icon, its Latin name salvare means “to heal.”
Traditionally, sage supports overall well-being during certain periods of a woman’s life, especially menopause.
Its subtly woody aroma evokes wisdom, serenity, and confidence.
Raspberry Leaf (Rubus idaeus L.)
Known as the plant of cycles and gentleness, raspberry leaf is traditionally associated with natural balance and regularity.
It helps support comfort before and during menstruation.
Its soft, herbaceous taste invites relaxation and harmony.
Phytoestrogen-Rich Plants: Which to Choose, and Why?
Some plants — such as sage, hops, or red clover — naturally contain compounds called phytoestrogens, whose structure resembles human estrogens.
They are traditionally used to accompany hormonal transitions, particularly menopause.
How to choose wisely?
- Prefer balanced infusions combining these plants with gentle herbs like verbena, lemon balm, or raspberry leaf.
- Choose organically grown, French-formulated products.
- Avoid self-medication or concentrated extracts without professional guidance.
Nature inspires, but knowledge guides — every plant speaks its own language, and every woman follows her own rhythm.
Prevention: An Act of Love — Breast Cancer Screening
Pink October is also a vital reminder: screening saves lives.
In France, the national screening program invites women aged 50 to 74 to have a mammogram every two years, fully covered by public health insurance.
How to schedule your screening:
- You receive an invitation letter from your regional screening center.
- You may choose any accredited radiologist.
- Schedule directly with the center indicated on the letter.
- If you haven’t received an invitation, contact your GP or visit the official website:
Self-Examination: A Simple Routine for Every Woman
Knowing your body is already caring for it.
Breast self-examination is a simple monthly gesture, ideally done a few days after your period ends.
How to do it:
- In front of a mirror: observe the shape and texture of your breasts.
- In the shower: gently palpate using the fingertips, making small circular motions.
- Lying down: press lightly to feel more deeply.

Fermented Stevia: When Nature Intrigues Science
Sometimes, nature manages to surprise even the most seasoned researchers.
Recently, an international study revealed that an extract of fermented stevia, transformed through a microorganism derived from banana leaves (Lactobacillus plantarum), appears capable of disrupting certain cancer cells observed under laboratory conditions.
Through this natural fermentation process, stevia develops new active molecules — one in particular, chlorogenic acid methyl ester — which seems to interfere with the functioning and survival of tumor cells during in vitro experiments. In other words, under the microscope, these plant-based extracts appear to “consume” or neutralize cancer cells while preserving healthy ones.
Although still at an experimental stage and not yet applied to humans, these results are generating great excitement in the world of phytoscience.
At Provence d’Antan, we follow this fascinating discovery with deep interest, guided by our belief that plants — in their infinite wisdom — still hold many secrets for our future well-being. We are already exploring the possibility of creating a herbal infusion made from fermented stevia, true to our philosophy: a 100% plant-based remedy, respectful of life and inspired by modern botanical research.
Because Provence teaches us each day that when you truly listen, nature speaks the language of life.
