Halloween: 5 spiced hot drink recipes

Halloween: 5 spiced hot drink recipes

A successful Halloween drink should be simple to make, easy to serve and striking enough to set the mood from the very first cup. Cinnamon, ginger, cocoa, cardamom, citrus and apple come together here in five hot recipes designed for two people. Some are suitable for the whole family, one contains black tea and the last is for adults only. Prepare the garnishes in advance, serve in heat-resistant cups and let each drink cool slightly before tasting.

Set up a little hot potion bar

For a smooth evening, choose two recipes rather than making all five at once. Set out the cups, spoons and ingredients in front of your guests, and clearly label the drinks that contain tea or alcohol. The Provence d’Antan Halloween selection lets you play with three flavour families: a cocoa and spice base, a red and fruity infusion, or a bolder black tea. Keep sugar optional so everyone can adjust their own cup.

1. Pumpkin-hazelnut latte with Witches’ Herbal Tea

This coffee-free latte combines a concentrated infusion, pumpkin purée and a plant-based drink. The Provence d’Antan Witches’ Herbal Tea (Tisane des Sorcières) includes cocoa, cinnamon, chicory, pumpkin, cardamom, ginger and clove.

Ingredients for two cups
250 ml Hazelnut or oat drink
200 ml Water
120 g Cooked, blended red kuri squash
1 tsp Honey
Method

Steep the tea bags for 6 to 8 minutes in water at 95–100 °C, then remove them.

Gently heat the plant-based drink with the pumpkin, without letting it boil.

Whisk until smooth, add the concentrated infusion and divide between two cups. For a lighter version, replace half of the plant-based drink with hot water.

2. Red apple-orange potion with Nostradamus Herbal Tea

The Provence d’Antan Nostradamus Herbal Tea gets its red colour from hibiscus, with ginger, apple, cinnamon, mint, rose, black pepper and citrus among its ingredients.

Ingredients for two cups
200 ml Water
300 ml Apple juice
2 Thin strips of unwaxed orange peel
1 tsp Honey
Method

Steep the tea bags for 6 to 8 minutes in water at 95–100 °C, then remove them.

Pour the infusion, apple juice and orange peel into a saucepan.

Heat gently for 5 minutes without boiling. Taste before sweetening, strain out the peel and serve. For a less sweet version, replace 100 ml of apple juice with 100 ml of water.

3. Spiced dark hot chocolate with Witches’ Herbal Tea

This recipe turns the herbal tea into the spiced base of a hot chocolate. It stays rich without needing any cream.

Ingredients
200 ml Water
300 ml Milk or plant-based drink
60 g Dark chocolate
1 pinch Salt
Method

Make the concentrated infusion for 6 to 8 minutes, then remove the tea bags.

In a saucepan, heat the milk over a low heat.

Add the chocolate and whisk until melted. Stir in the infusion and the salt, then heat for one more minute without boiling.

For a milder version, use 40 g of chocolate and add a spoonful of milk foam just before serving.

4. Hot spiced orange black tea

Provence d’Antan’s Organic Highlight Cinnamon Ginger Black Tea contains black tea, ginger, cinnamon, anise, clove and black pepper. It makes a bold base; this drink naturally contains theine.

Ingredients for two cups
400 ml Water
100 ml Orange juice
1 tsp Honey
Method

Steep the tea for 3 to 5 minutes in water at 95–100 °C, then strain the leaves carefully.

Add the orange juice and reheat gently without boiling.

Taste, then add honey only if needed. Serve immediately. For a less strong version, use one and a half teaspoons of tea for the same amount of liquid.

5. Halloween grog with Nostradamus Herbal Tea

This last recipe is for adults only. The rum is added after steeping to keep the drink balanced; it should not be presented as a remedy.

Ingredients
400 ml Water
60 ml Amber rum
20 ml Lemon juice
2 tsp Honey
Method

Steep the tea bags for 6 to 8 minutes in water at 95–100 °C, then remove them.

Divide the rum, lemon juice and honey between two cups.

Pour in the hot infusion and stir. Serve immediately, to adults only.

For an alcohol-free version, replace the rum with 100 ml of hot apple juice and reduce the honey to taste.

How to serve your Halloween drinks

A slice of orange, a thin slice of dried apple or a little milk foam is enough to tell the cups apart. Skip unnecessary food colouring: the natural shades already range from deep brown to carmine red. Keep very hot drinks out of children’s reach and use a suitable ladle if you serve from a large pot. The quantities given here are culinary adaptations to be tested before publication; for a simple infusion, always follow the instructions on the product page.

A cosy evening, without the fuss

These five recipes let you choose a Halloween drink to suit your guests’ ages and the time of the evening: pumpkin latte for an afternoon snack, apple-orange potion to share, hot chocolate for dessert, black tea for a livelier cup, or a grog for adults only. Start with a well-made base, strain every infusion and heat the juices without letting them boil. The setting can be mysterious; the recipe itself should stay simple.

FAQ: hot Halloween drinks

Which Halloween drink should I make for children?

The pumpkin-hazelnut latte, the red apple-orange potion and the spiced dark hot chocolate are suitable for the whole family. Avoid the Highlight black tea, which contains theine, and the grog, which is for adults only.

Can these drinks be prepared in advance?

Yes. Make the concentrated infusion a few hours ahead, keep it in the fridge, then gently reheat it with the milk or juice just before serving, without boiling.

How long should I steep the Witches’ Herbal Tea or the Nostradamus Herbal Tea?

Allow 6 to 8 minutes in water at 95–100 °C, then remove the tea bags. For a simple cup, follow the instructions on the product page.

Is there an alcohol-free version of the Halloween grog?

Yes: replace the rum with 100 ml of hot apple juice and reduce the honey to taste.

How can I colour a Halloween drink without food colouring?

The hibiscus in the Nostradamus Herbal Tea gives a carmine red colour, and the cocoa in the Witches’ Herbal Tea a deep brown. A slice of orange or a slice of dried apple is all you need for decoration.

Can I replace milk with a plant-based drink?

Yes. The latte and the hot chocolate work very well with an oat or hazelnut drink.
